About Intellimed Consulting - Barry Zakar, Principal
Barry Zakar has over 25 years experience in the medical device industry, marketing capital medical equipment, disposables and implantables to multiple medical specialties in both the hospital and office practice market sectors. Barry has developed expertise in creating new markets for innovative medical technologies in entrepreneurial environments. He has most recently provided guidance in strategic marketing, positioning, clinical and reimbursement issues to Signostics, an early-stage Australian company with an office in the San Francisco Bay Area for U.S. market entry. Previously, Barry served as Vice President of North American Operations for Uscom, an early stage Australian critical care medical device company seeking to enter the U.S. market. Prior to founding Intellimed Consulting, he was a Director, Center for Business Intelligence at Edwards Lifesciences in Irvine, CA, where his primary role was the acquisition and integration of primary market research into the new product/new business identification and development process.
Before joining Edwards Lifesciences, Barry was Director of Marketing for Vasomedical in Westbury, NY, an early-stage company marketing noninvasive therapy for chronic angina and heart failure. He was responsible for all aspects of marketing, including strategic and tactical market planning, positioning, collaterals and AV materials generation, market research and development, customer/clinical support, sales training and reimbursement issues.
Prior to Vasomedical, Barry was a principal at Millennium Consulting, where he provided consulting services to venture capital and early-stage medical device companies in Silicon Valley. He also worked with the Australian Trade Commission (AUSTRADE) in San Francisco to assist several dozen Australian lifesciences companies with entry into U.S. markets.
Prior to his consulting experience, Barry served in various marketing positions leading to Director of Marketing with Medasonics/Neuroguard, pioneer noninvasive peripheral vascular and cerebrovascular diagnostics companies in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Barry holds an MBA degree from John F.Kennedy University, was formerly an Assistant Professor at CSU Maritime School of Business Administration and is listed in the Cambridge Who’s Who Executive and Professional Registry.
